Carol Weisman, President of Board Builders
Carol Weisman is the president of Board Builders. She works primarily in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, where she does keynotes, board and staff training and facilitates retreats on fundraising, philanthropy and governance. She has served on 29 boards and has been president of 7.  Carol began her professional career working with street gangs, a marvelous background for working with boards. She found the gangs better organized, with clearer expectations and a solid leadership training program. Although she doesn’t recommend any fund raising that would end in incarceration, the gangs certainly had some “creative” ideas.  Carol is the author of 8 books on fundraising, governance and philanthropy. Carol’s first book on philanthropy “Raising Charitable Children” came out last year and is it third printing.

Richard Brewster, Executive Director of
National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise
Richard Brewster is Executive Director of the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise (NCNE), based in Alexandria, North Virginia.  NCNE is a national capacity building organization which helps nonprofits allocate their resources effectively to achieve sustainability. NCNE provides a resource base of materials, publishes books, presents conferences and delivers training on a number of aspects of nonprofit economics. For eight years until February 2003, Richard was chief executive of Scope, a national disability charity and one of the UK's largest nonprofits.  As CEO, he oversaw major changes in governance and in the strategy of the organization, and introduced an outcome driven approach to the delivery of programs. Prior to this, he was Director of Marketing at Scope, responsible for all aspects of fundraising including a major thrift shop chain, public relations and advocacy.  In 2003/4, he was Senior Visiting Practitioner at the Center of Public and Nonprofit Leadership at Georgetown University. He is also visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Open University Business School in the United Kingdom, under whose auspices he is conducting research on the "Inner Life” of chief executives of charities in the UK. Richard was educated at Oxford University and spent the first 10 years of his working life in commercial management in ICI, then a major multinational chemical company.  He joined the nonprofit sector in 1986 when he became the National Appeals Director of Oxfam, a major UK NGO.

Gail Perry, CFRE, Founder of Gail Perry Associates

Her Passion-Driven Fundraising™ approach, developed over the past 22 years as a non-profit philanthropy expert, enables organizations to connect with supporters on a personal level, re-energize board members, manage successful capital campaigns and ultimately raise much more money. Leveraging her Passion-Driven model, Gail has helped organizations raise over $100 million — and counting.  Gail is the author of the book, Fired-Up Fundraising: Turn Board Passion into Action, published Spring 2007 by John Wiley & Sons, a global leader in professional and educational materials. Her writing has also been featured in Development Director’s Letter, Fundraising Success magazine and other respected industry resources.  Gail launched her fundraising career at Duke University and then directed the fundraising program at The Kenan-Flagler School of Business, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  Ms. Perry holds an MBA and a BA with honors in English from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  A noted speaker, Gail has presented at national and international fundraising conferences — often to standing-room-only audiences with over 300 attendees across the country.  Gail also offers retreats for boards and gives the keynote speeches at major conferences.  Her approach to speaking is to make fundraising seem accessible and easier and not so fearful.  With her successful Fired UP Fundraising: Turn Your Board’s Passion into Action presentation, Gail provides new content to the industry that makes sense.  Through jokes and stories, she brings fundraising experiences and techniques alive, leaving attendees inspired, energized and excited about what they can accomplish.
