Be an Incredible Family Volunteer!
Volunteering as a
family provides quality time, strengthens
communication and offers opportunities for family
members to be role models while making significant
contributions to their neighborhoods. Family
volunteering develops lifelong volunteers and a
legacy of civic engagement for the next generation
to carry into the future.
Family Volunteer Day is an international initiative
of the Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network to work with families, businesses,
nonprofits and volunteer centers to make
volunteering a family tradition. Locally, Family
Volunteer Day is planned and implemented by
VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads. This year over 700 volunteers packed
over 12,500
pounds of nonperishable food for 13 local nonprofits --
primarily homeless and domestic abuse shelters --
the Saturday before Thanksgiving at Virginia
Wesleyan College.
