Thank you to everyone who volunteered for Global
Youth Service Day! Together we made our
community a better place to live!
Global
Youth Service Day is the largest service event
in the world. Millions of youth participated in the
20th Annual Global Youth Service Day.
VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads coordinates the project at a
local level
throughout Hampton Roads by engaging hundreds of middle and
high school students to volunteer in their
community through environmental clean ups.
The
goals of Global Youth Service Day are:
-
To
MOBILIZE youth to identify and address the needs
of their communities through service.
-
To
SUPPORT youth on a life-long path of service and
civic engagement.
-
To
EDUCATE the public, the media, and our
communities about the year-round contributions
of
young people as community leaders.
Project:
Middle and high school students participate in
environmental clean-up projects throughout Hampton
Roads at project sites including Barraud Park,
Chesapeake Arboretum, First Landing State Park and
Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve. Youth volunteers
are encouraged to
continue to serve their community by receiving a
Global Youth Service Day Environmental Education
Resource CD.
