Every day, seven people die in home fires, most in homes that lack working smoke alarms. The Red Cross is hosting a free smoke alarm install event in Hampton Roads called, Sound the Alarm. It will take place in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News. We need your help!
Please register to volunteer at www.soundthealarm.org in the city of your choice. There will be two shifts- 9-2pm and 11-4pm on May 5. No experience necessary. Volunteers arrive and will be trained by Red Crossers. After training, they will be organized into teams of 3 and given an area to walk through. Each team will be install the detector, talk about an escape plan with the homeowner and fill out a little bit of paperwork. Lunch will be provided. Attire: Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
