Court Appointed Special Advocate
BE THE CHANGE - Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate! Norfolk CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is recruiting volunteers for our upcoming 30 Hour Pre-Service training class, September 11 through October 11, will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-9pm for 5 weeks. Applications are due August 31, 2018.
Norfolk CASA volunteers advocate for abused and neglected children in the city of Norfolk. We are the child's voice in court, and a support for them during this most confusing and traumatic time. As the ‘eyes and ears of the judge,’ we investigate and report our findings to the court at each hearing. Advocating always for the best interest of the child, we stay by their side until they are in a safe and permanent placement.
Because of the vulnerable population of children we serve, there is a rigorous and thorough application and interview process. We do not require certain education or work experience, but you must pass reference and background checks. After being trained and sworn in as a CASA, you will be assigned a case and see your CASA kids a minimum of twice a month. 18 month minimum commitment is required. On average, our volunteer advocates spend 10-15 hours each month working on their case. Please directly email Olivia Rasquiza firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
