Virginia Beach Reads Tutor Mentor program
The award-winning Virginia Beach READS mentor-tutoring program for first grade readers is seeking volunteers for the 2018/2019 school year at Bayside, Luxford, Point O’View, Shelton Park,Thalia and White Oaks Elementary School. The program offers one-on-one assistance to young readers for one hour each week. Volunteers will receive training before they begin on how to help students practice skills they are learning in class as well as ways to help them become better, more fluent readers. Volunteers should plan to work with one student for approximately 20-25 minutes and then to work with a second student for an additional 20-25 minutes each week from October 2018 through May 2019. The supportive relationship you create with students will help them to be confident, successful readers.
