Physician Outreach Volunteer
An Alzheimer’s Association Physician Outreach Volunteer educates health care professionals about Alzheimer's disease and related dementia programs and services available to their patients and caregivers. They also provide education on how to make referrals to the Alzheimer's Association, as needed, by conducting telephone calls and meetings.
Volunteers must complete a 2-hour Volunteer Orientation and must shadow a Chapter staff employee or seasoned volunteer on a site visit to complete the full training.
The Alzheimer’s Association Southeastern Virginia Chapter covers the Southside, Peninsula, Western Tidewater, Eastern Shore and South Central Virginia. The Chapter is need of volunteers who live in, or are willing to travel to any of those areas.
Qualifications:
• Knowledge of and experience working with healthcare systems
• An understanding of networking strategies and ability to create and foster relationships
• Excellent verbal and Written communication
• Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Visits physician offices on a regular basis to refresh materials, meet and greet with office staff and provide program information
• Follow up calls to physician offices to field questions and provide program information
• Educate physician and staff about Memory Loss Referral Program and care planning tools
• Commit 3-5 hours per month to make visit or conduct phone calls
