Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk, VA, offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, Schooner Virginia and the Half Moone Cruise & Celebration Center to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military.
Nauticus offers a wide variety of opportunities across our campus, enabling volunteers to gain insight to museum life and get involved in a number of different tasks and activites.
Opportunities include:
Battleship, Education, and Guest Experience Crew
Exhibition Support
Student Internships/Teen Programs
Sailing Instructors
Gift Shop Associates
Guest Ambassadors (Admissions)
Summer Camp Assistants
Community Cleanups
Group Restoration Projects
All potential volunteers will be required to:
1) Submit an online application for becoming an individual or group volunteer.
2) Upon receipt of application, you will be contacted for an interview.
3) Interview notes will go the Department Volunteer Coordinator for approval.
4) Upon approval, individual volunteers will be need to: attend a new Volunteer Orientation, submit a Volunteer Agreement Form, submit a COVID Vaccination or Exemption Status Form, and Background Check for adults.
5) Upon approval for Group Volunteers, the Group Coordinator will need to: share with the group members the Nauticus Group Guidelines and submit a Group Memorandum of Understanding Form.
6) Department Volunteer Coordinators will work with you to schedule your first day.
7) All individual volunteers will be required to serve at least a minimum of 50 hours.
