Reading Tutor for Dyslexic Students
Sinkinson Dyslexia Foundation’s mission is to provide assistance to children struggling with dyslexia and other serious reading problems. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to serving families across Hampton Roads. Our volunteers do not need any prior training in reading or teaching. Volunteers will be trained to use a very structured reading program. Tutoring can be done at any local library, one hour, once a week. Volunteer tutors have helped students gain several grade levels in reading!
This group training session will allow volunteers to learn more about what dyslexia is, how it impacts reading, and what components go into a successful tutoring session.
NOTE: An application process is required prior to attending the training session. You will receive the application via email from a representative of the foundation. All applicants may be subject to a background check.
This is a great opportunity to gain teaching experience, learn more about the learning differences, and most importantly make a difference in a child’s life! You only need to dedicate one hour a week for each student.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 18+
