Advisory Council Members - Caregivers, Social Worker, and Oncology Navigator

Seeking Advisory Council Members – WINKS (With INtentional Kindness and Support) Brain Tumor Support Open Board Positions (Term of 2-3 Years)

WINKS is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit established in August of 2019 by president, Samaria Hunter, and her radiation oncologist, Dr. Allan Thornton.  Their passion to help brain tumor patients is driven by firsthand experience – his over 30 years of working with brain tumor patients and her own diagnosis in 2015.  As one of the most devastating and costliest cancers, far too many struggle with the emotional, physical, and financial tolls of this dreadful disease. 

We are seeking an advisory council member, who wants to make a difference by helping us “Enhance the quality of life for brain tumor patients and caregivers With INtentional Kindness and Support (WINKS) – no journey is traveled alone!

The WINKS Advisory Council will be a collection of individuals with specialized expertise in working with brain tumor patients and caregivers, who will advise and support the governance work of the board.

CAREGIVER DESCRIPTION - Two (2) positions:  Caregiver of an Adult Patient and Caregiver of Pediatric Patient

  • Must have experience as a caregiver of brain tumor patient; involved with activities of daily living with individuals/families dealing with brain tumor disease
  • Serves as the voice for brain tumor patients and caregivers
  • Sets the tone for committee work
  • Able to attend monthly meetings, virtual and/or in-person
  • Attend events and able to participate as a volunteer
  • Provide information to the board regarding needs in the community
  • Recruit others to volunteer with needs of the board
  • Reports to the full board on committee’s decisions/recommendations

SOCIAL WORKER/ONCOLOGY NAVIGATOR DESCRIPTION

  • Provides help to individuals, families, groups of people to help cope with brain tumor disease
  • A conduit to improve the quality of life for patients
  • Sets the tone for committee work
  • Able to attend monthly meetings, virtual and/or in-person
  • Attend events and able to participate as a volunteer
  • Provide information to the board regarding needs in the community
  • Reports to the full board on committee’s decisions/recommendations
