Kate Meechan, MBA, Executive Director
Kate Meechan serves as the Executive Director at VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, working to build lasting relationships in the community and encourage collaboration between nonprofits, the corporate sector, volunteers and the community at large. Kate has her MBA from Old Dominion University and her BS from Boston University. She serves as Leadership Faculty for the National Corporate Service Council and sat on the National Advisory Council of Corporate Volunteer Councils. Kate has been involved in service to the community since the young age of 10 when she volunteered during the summer at the skilled nursing facility of her local hospital. In high school she participated in service learning projects and eventually through her work as an adult she continued to serve the community. Now, the mother of three, she looks for opportunities to show the value of giving to others to her children.
Melissa Reese, Director of Development
Melissa Estrada Reese has worked for more than 10 years supporting Hampton Roads nonprofits in fundraising, special events and development efforts. Most recently Ms. Reese served as the Director of Advancement for The Williams School, a K-8 independent school in Norfolk, Va. Previously, she served as the Director of Community Relations for Amerigroup Corporation, managing the employee volunteer program for approximately 6,000 associates. In 2013, the Amerigroup Community Volunteers Program was awarded first place in the category of corporate employee volunteer programs by PRNews. Ms. Reese has a background in communications, working as a writer in both the External and Internal Communications departments at Amerigroup, supporting government relations efforts as well as employee relations. She began her career working for various nonprofits, including ACCESS AIDS Care and Samaritan House. She currently resides in Norfolk with her husband, Ryan and daughters Emmaline and Margo.
Leigh-Anne Cade, MPH, CVA, Director of Training
As Director of Training, Leigh-Anne develops and implements our forums, symposiums and training events. She additionally researches, develops and facilitates customized training including board governance and volunteer management for nonprofit partners by request. Leigh-Anne also serves as the head trainer and facilitator for the Service Enterprise Initiative, which is designed to build the capacity of nonprofit organizations through high level volunteer utilization. Prior to coming to VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads, Leigh-Anne worked for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for 13 years in positions including programs and services, nonprofit management, advocacy and fundraising. She also worked for the American Heart Association and completed her graduate level internship at the American Cancer Society. Leigh-Anne earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Towson University in Maryland and her Master of Public Health degree from San Diego State University.
Susan Pleasants, Director of VolunTier Vision
Susan works closely with the nearly 200 nonprofit member organizations that are a part of VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads to enhance member benefits and communications. She additionally develops programming and advises the 60 member, Hampton Roads Corporate VOLUNTEER Council. VolunTier Vision, where skilled professionals are matched with nonprofit organizations in a deliberate fashion enabling the nonprofit to build capacity is also a part of her responsibilities. Pleasants is a seasoned professional with extensive background in both the business and nonprofit sectors. She has worked as a head hunter, community relations manager, event planner and as a charity dodgeball tournament director. Susan earned a BA from the College of William & Mary where she additionally completed graduate course work in higher education administration.
Callah Terkeltaub, Services Coordinator
Callah runs the day-to-day operations at VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads. She is responsible for coordinating and managing all Points of Light Day of Service Events including Family VOLUNTEER Day and Global Youth VOLUNTEER Day. She also serves as the board liaison, and works to provide communications to volunteers, nonprofit organizations, local corporations and the Hampton Roads community through the VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads website, social media, and Constant Contact database. Callah also acts as the marketing and Public Relations liason for the organization. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University with a BA in English and Professional Writing.
