REACH Warehouse Support

📚🌟 Volunteer Opportunity to Support Literacy with REACH, Inc.! 🌟📚

At REACH, Inc. (Reading Enriches All Children), we are deeply committed to our mission of fostering literacy by distributing thousands of books and resources across Coastal Virginia. Last year, our efforts accounted for over $500,000 worth of resources contributed to the community. We are thrilled to announce the launch of our FREE bookstore at JANAF Shopping Yard, and we're seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join us in the warehouse.

📦 What to Expect:

Volunteers will play a crucial role in the movement of books and materials. For those assisting with book transportation, the role requires the ability to lift weights ranging from 10 to 30 lbs, and to perform tasks such as bending, squatting, and standing. Alternatively, volunteers helping with book preparation will be engaged in sorting, packing, and affixing stickers. Comfortable attire, including closed-toe shoes (sneakers/tennis shoes), is recommended. The tasks will involve a combination of walking, sitting, and standing.

How to sign-up:

(1) Select the Date and Shift you want to volunteer through the Volunteer Hampton Roads platform.

(2) Complete the Requirements:

a. Open to individuals aged 16* and older (*Volunteers aged 16 - 17 must have a parent or legal guardian present during their shift).

b. Volunteer Forms (you only have to complete the forms ONCE):
- REACH Volunteer Form: https://form.jotform.com/210757144140144
- Video & Photo Release Form: https://form.jotform.com/211795974701161

Background checks are not necessary for warehouse volunteers; however, it is essential that no volunteer has a misdemeanor related to cash or theft, and absolutely no felonies of any nature. By registering, you affirm that you are not implicated in misdemeanors or felonies of this kind.

Upon completion of all stipulated requirements, you will receive additional information about your volunteering assignment. Please be aware that without fulfilling the requirements, access to the volunteer event will not be granted until they are verified.

💌 Recognition and Support:

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1st, 2023, in order to provide you with accurate and meaningful service letters, we have established a minimum requirement of SIX (6) combined service hours. If your volunteer hours amount to 6 hours or less, you will have the convenience of obtaining a printout directly from Volunteer Hampton Roads, a platform through which you register for our opportunities.

To ensure a smooth and efficient process, we kindly request that same-day service letter requests not be submitted. Instead, please allow a window of 2-3 BUSINESS DAYS for us to prepare your service letter. This time frame will enable us to verify your service hours and craft a comprehensive letter that duly acknowledges your commitment.

For any queries or additional information, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Ella Roque, Volunteer & Program Coordinator (eroque@reachreads.org), or Dr. Jennifer Goff, Executive Director (jgoff@reachreads.org). You can also connect with us via phone at 757-627-4722.

Your contribution matters immensely in advancing our literacy mission. Let's come together to make a lasting difference in our community!
