WINKS – With INtentional Kindness and Support Board Member Opportunities

WINKS is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving brain tumor patients and their families in the Hampton Roads region. WINKS is seeking individuals with diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives to strengthen our board. 

Our Mission
To uplift brain tumor patients and their families so that no journey is traveled alone.

Our Vision
To lift the burdens for brain tumor patients and their families so they can focus on the fight.

Through our Empathy in Action program, WINKS provides emotional, financial, logistical, and informational support to individuals and families navigating the challenges of brain tumor disease.

WINKS is the only nonprofit organization in the Hampton Roads region dedicated exclusively to supporting brain tumor patients and their families.

Our working board includes individuals who are personally connected to this journey and are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

 

Board Member Responsibilities

Board members play a vital role in guiding the mission and ensuring the long-term sustainability of WINKS.

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend regular board meetings and organizational events
  • Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, and programs
  • Review meeting materials in advance and actively participate in discussions
  • Serve on committees or contribute to special initiatives
  • Advocate for WINKS and help expand community awareness
  • Assist with identifying potential supporters, volunteers, and future board members
  • Contribute financially in accordance with board policies
  • Uphold the organization’s conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies
  • Support the board in carrying out its fiduciary and governance responsibilities

Who Should Apply

WINKS welcomes board candidates who are passionate about supporting brain tumor patients and their families. Individuals with experience in the following areas are particularly valuable:

  • Healthcare or patient advocacy
  • Nonprofit leadership or governance
  • Marketing and communications
  • Finance or accounting
  • Volunteer management
  • Community outreach and partnerships

Personal or professional connections to the brain tumor community are especially meaningful, though not required.
