Our Mission The Generic Theater is committed to innovative productions of contemporary works, new plays, and reinterpretations of the classics. The theater explores issues of importance to its diverse community while challenging the audience with provocative work. The artistic vision is realized through a season of plays, special group outreach projects, a developmental new play program, and encouragement of related art forms. Nurtured by a core of professionals, the Generic Theater provides a home for emerging theater artists of Hampton Roads.
