http://www.toiva.orgAt Tidewater Opera Initiative we seek to highlight and celebrate the vast amount of local musical talent in Hampton Roads and the larger Tidewater region. Our Professional Artist program showcases promising young opera singers in lead roles of one full scale opera production a year. Professional Artists gain the opportunity to hone their craft in performance, recitals, and in master classes with leading professionals in the industry. Tidewater Opera Initiative also takes great pride in our dedication to helping the next generation of singing actors, by offering an Apprentice Artist program, which incorporates exceptional high school and college aged students into the ensembles of our productions, as understudies of main-stage roles, and in master classes with esteemed faculty. Our initials (TOI) also have a special meaning in the opera world. Instead of saying "break a leg" before we head onstage we say "toi toi toi!" It's an expression of good luck that blesses us as well as our audiences!
