Virginia Beach Library Foundation - Board Position
Ideal Candidate
Each individual board member contributes to the board in fulfilling its major duties. Some of the work below may be carried out by specific board members or committees, but each individual board member has the responsibility to ensure the full board carries out the following roles and duties. Fundraising: Make the Foundation a philanthropic priority. Provide strategic assistance in finding, making introductions to, and engaging potential donors, and assist in soliciting donors when appropriate. Attend events and fundraisers, act as an ambassador, and volunteer to assist in activities when available. Engagement: Participate actively in the affairs of the Foundation. Attend at least one Virginia Beach Public Library program annually. Represent the Foundation in the community. Cultivate relationship from personal and/or professional networks that support the Foundation’s mission. Support Foundation Staff: Provide guidance and support to the Executive Director and staff on all activities, including operations and fundraising efforts. Approve the organization’s annual budget. Regularly review and understand the organization’s financial statements and assess the organization’s financial position. Ensure Healthy Governance: Recruit and orient new board members. Develop a plan for board succession and officer leadership. Review bylaws and maintain compliance with all legal requirements, conflict of interest policies, and other guiding documents annually and update as needed.
